SCRIPTURE: The human spirit is the lamp of the LORD. PROVERBS 20:27, NIV
“God is light and in Him is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5, NKJV ) That's what the apostle John writes in his letter. But centuries earlier, a proverb identified a key medium that makes God's light visible. The human spirit is the place where God intends for His light to shine. He created us for glory.
The Bible says that we were made in His image (Genesis 1:26). And because of this, our spirits are capable of reflecting the glory of God back at Him. But if our spirits are dark, there's no way they can reflect His light. In fact, they will instead absorb and reflect darkness back at Him. So it's essential for us to make sure our spirits are brightened up and shining!
Have you ever felt like you're just going through the motions? Like life is just passing you by, and nothing really matters?
I know that feeling. I used to feel like it all came down to what I could get out of life, or how much money I could make. But then I realized something: God made us in His image so that we could reflect who He is. And that means we were designed to be able to connect with Him, live in a relationship with Him, and communicate with Him.
That's why every aspect of our being was designed to be a contact point between us and Him—even our physical senses! We perceive God through the power of His Word, the life of His Spirit, and the experiences we have in the context of our relationship with Him. As A. W. Tozer writes: "God desires and is pleased to communicate with us through the avenues of our minds, our wills, and our emotions."
What does it mean to be “created for glory”?
It means we were made to reflect the Lord. He is the light; we are the lamps that draw their light from Him and display it to the world. We are flames of His fire, pictures of His glory, reflections of His nature. He has given us a standing invitation and every opportunity to be living, breathing expressions of the Godhead. That’s why we were made.
Have you ever stopped to think about how much you shine?
The truth is, the lamp doesn't need to know it's shining. The lamp shines because it knows its purpose: to reveal God's glory. And when it does what it was made for, that is exactly what happens—it reveals God's glory.
It's not about how worthy you feel, or how confident you are in your abilities; it's about doing what you were made to do, and letting God shine through you as a result. When we're truly connected with His voice and His presence, our role as a lamp will be fulfilled without our even knowing it!
Dear Lord, I pray that You shine Your light on me, in me, and through me. May I be an accurate reflection of Your glory everywhere I go. Speak to my spirit and light the fire within so that I glow with Your presence everywhere I go. Take Care, God Bless, and Make It A Great Day!
