SCRIPTURE: The person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him. 1 CORINTHIANS 6:17

When two people fall in love and get married, they become one flesh. They begin a lifelong process of learning each other's personalities, tendencies, habits, and even thought patterns.  With no loss of individuality, they become one. And the world begins to see them as a unit, not without distinct personalities, but with a common will and purpose. They are joined to each other in a way that gives them the ability to know and represent each other's voices.

This is how God sees us—as His bride. He knows every aspect of our personality, every inclination we have toward good or evil; He knows our thoughts before we think them (see Psalm 139:2–3). Because He loves us so much and wants us to be happy with Him forever in heaven, He has designed His plan so that we can live out our lives here on earth in such a way that when it comes time for His judgment seat at the end of life, we will have done everything necessary for salvation (see 1 John 5:13).

The first time I heard this passage, I was blown away. I had never thought about what it actually meant that our spirits are joined to Christ's Spirit, or that we have the mind of Christ. I just read it as a command to obey God and not do evil things, which is important and all, but it doesn't go far enough to explain the extent of this connection.

But when I really thought about it, when my spirit became one with Christ's Spirit… wow. It means that when you hear His voice and obey Him, it's not just the product of good training or a spiritual gift—it's because your soul has been joined with Him in a way that can never be broken. You're literally connected to Him in an inseparable way. You're part of His family, His people—His Body!

And here's the crazy part: if He knows what you need before you even ask for it (which He does), then wouldn't it stand to reason that He would know what you need before you even knew? That's why Paul says "we know according to his will." That's why Jesus said, "On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you."

We all have a relationship with God, but we can err by either over-assuming or under-assuming about our awareness of His presence and voice.

He has assured us that we are united with Him, not just theoretically, but practically. We don’t know Him perfectly, but we do know Him with certainty. And when we need to hear Him, we need to listen no further than our own spirits.

Lord, I want to be one with You. I don't know how it works or what it feels like, but I do know that this is the close relationship I've longed for. Help me know Your thoughts with certainty and give me the words to share what is on my heart. Take Care, God Bless, and Make It A Great Day!
