[Anna] and then was a widow until she was eighty-four.[a] She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying. 38 Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem. LUKE 2:37-38

The story of Anna is one that can be applied to a lot of modern Christians. It is far more than just a story. It holds powerful truth that applies to Christians today as much as it did twenty centuries ago. The basic outline of the story is simple: Anna, an elderly widow, devoted herself to serving God and living a life of praise and worship.

Anna knew that this young child was special, and she wanted to tell everyone. She wanted to share her discovery. She just didn’t know how. What happened next, however, changed her from simply a witness to the birth of Christ into one of His earliest followers.

We may think of adoration and worship as separate issues from receiving God’s guidance, but they go hand in hand. When we spend our time adoring Him in gratitude and praise, our hearts synchronize with His. As we cultivate the relationship, we begin to hear and know things we didn’t expect to hear and know . . .

Adoration and worship are closely linked to actually hearing God. It’s not unlike the way a radio pick-up starts to work when you bring it near the radio station transmitter.

Our communion with Him is the power that changes us, that sets us apart, that enables us to hear and see what God wants. It’s the power that leads us into His presence and causes us to hear His voice.

Hearing God’s voice is not something that happens automatically. It’s a choice we make. When we are relaxed and focus on seeking nothing more than to know God's heart and enjoy Him, He will speak to us.

I to have tried before to hear the voice of God before I knew His heart...but He was not there. I learned when you spend time trying to listen for Him without simply enjoying Him, you miss His presence...100%.

Stop talking, and learn to "lean In"...because THAT...is how you hear a whisper.

Father, I pour out my love for You  —not because I want things from You, but because You are my priority. Let me enjoy Your goodness and seek Your heart above all else.
